Japan will co-host an online summit on June 2 as part of global efforts to ensure a fair supply of coronavirus vaccines to developing countries, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Tuesday.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Motegi will participate in the leader’s gathering to be held by the Gavi vaccine alliance of governments, international organizations, companies and charities.

Among the topics on the agenda will be the planned delivery of 1.8 billion doses of vaccine to cover 30 percent of the population of developing countries this year, Motegi told a press conference.

To that end, the leaders will discuss ways to pool $1.7 billion, he said.
